The afterlife (and how to get covered)

We look into how others view life after passing, and ask are we doing it all wrong?

Death. It can be a bit of a swear word, can’t it?

It’s one of those uncomfortable subjects, that many of us don’t like to talk about… but is the inevitable final chapter in this wonderful journey we call life. So why is it sometimes seen as a bit of a taboo?

We celebrate the creation of life…

So then maybe we should embrace the other side of it too? Take Mexico for example. They have a national holiday in November, called ‘Dia de los Muertos’ that translates into ‘The day of the dead’. It sounds like something to do with Halloween right? Wrong! It is in fact the country’s biggest religious holiday:

  • It’s a spectacular day of remembrance, involving family and friends gathering
  • The day usually involves lots of singing and dancing
  • Known as an annual celebration of the lives of loved ones who are no longer with us.

The day typically involves friends and family visiting the graves and altars of their loved ones, telling funny stories about their departed, celebrating with food and drink – whilst decorating the areas with lots of colourful flowers, personal possessions and lit candles.

More recently the celebrations have evolved into public parties and parades, where people dress up in striking costumes and face paint. It sounds pleasant doesn’t it? So why do we tend to avoid the subject this side of the pond, rather than embrace it?

A wise person once said

We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.’

That quote will likely resonate with most, which is why we at OneFamily, take pride in looking out for people who have the interests of their loved ones at the forefront. If that sounds like you, and you’re at least 50 years of age… then our award-winning Life Cover may be of interest.

Terminal illness cover at no extra cost

If you’ve held your plan for 2 years (and we’re the only provider to offer this as standard)

Flexibility on your premium

During the first two years, we’ll pay 150% of the premiums paid in if you pass away due to natural causes or 3 times the cover if you pass away as a result of an accident. Your loved ones will just need to decide on how this financial boost can be used to help your memory live on.

Did you know the average funeral costs £4,798*

So it will also be reassuring to know, our Over 50’s Life Cover also comes with Funeral Funding built into your policy, where a £300 contribution will be made by Golden Charter’s appointed funeral director (our chosen Funeral Funding partner), at no extra cost to you.

Important information

This is not a savings plan and has no cash-in value. You could pay in more than the policy pays out, and Inflation could mean that any amount paid out may not buy as much as it would do now. Our Over 50s life cover is also not a funeral plan and so may not cover the full cost of your funeral.

Wherever you stand on today’s subject, we hope we’ve opened up your thinking to what shouldn’t be an uneasy subject. Life is for living, so whilst you do that - let us help you start looking after the next bit!
