Proposed merger of OneFamily and Scottish Friendly.

The recommendation of OneFamily is ‘for’ the merger

We’re proposing to join OneFamily & Scottish Friendly together to create one of the UK’s largest mutual organisations with 2.3 million members

OneFamily and Scottish Friendly are proposing to merge to create a single member-owned mutual. The combined mutual would operate under the group name of OneFamily.

By combining our experience of over 200 years’ serving our members and communities, we want to create one of the UK’s largest and most experienced mutual organisations.

This would give us the capacity to further improve the long-term value of our products and services, while continuing to reinvest our profits to benefit our members and communities.

Hear from OneFamily CEO Jim Islam and Scottish Friendly’s Chair John McGuigan, as they look ahead to a shared future built on mutual values.

How we believe this would benefit our members

  • A wider range of affordable products: Access to more great value investment and protection products for our members.
  • More benefits for our members: The merger will help us introduce even more benefits to help our members save more in the future.
  • A better customer care experience through improved digital infrastructure and technology.
  • More opportunity to invest in charities and communities that you care about.

What our members need to do

Because OneFamily and Scottish Friendly are both member-owned mutuals, the merger needs to be agreed by OneFamily's members and by the delegates who represent the members of Scottish Friendly (and then receive regulatory approval).

This means we’ll be holding a Special General Meeting (SGM) for our members to vote on the merger.
