Our Ethnicity & Culture Network

By Gemma Bellamy 29th May 2025

Our Ethnicity & Culture Network (ECN) was set up in 2024 to champion ethnic and cultural inclusion, helping to foster an inclusive environment for all colleagues.

Championing ethnic and cultural inclusion

ECN aims to support:

  • advocacy and representation
  • education and training
  • inspiration and empowerment
  • community engagement
  • promoting equality
  • celebration and recognition.

How our Ethnicity & Culture Network has been driving inclusion

Since it launched, ECN has been involved in many different activities across the business.

Monthly meetings

ECN holds regular monthly meetings with employees. OneFamily CEO, Jim Islam, attended the first meeting to explain his journey and his support for having this Network in place to promote diversity and inclusion across OneFamily.

Staff policies

ECN has provided input to staff policies from a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion perspective, together with input from our other employee Networks.

Creating articles

Throughout 2024 and 2025, ECN members wrote various articles on diversity and cultural events including Race Equality Week, Southeast Asia Day and Ramadan.

Social Events

In September 2024, ECN hosted its first ever movie night at our Brighton office.

The event was enjoyed by colleagues across the business, while also playing a part in creating a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

World Food Day Lunch and Quiz

February 2025 saw the Network hosting a mouth-watering World Food Day lunch and quiz.

This showcase of colleagues’ culinary skills was put on to celebrate Race Equality Week, in collaboration with Time to Talk (in conjunction with Mind, to encourage colleagues to talk about mental health).

The event was hugely successful, bringing colleagues from different teams and departments together to share the diverse feast.

At OneFamily we're invested in creating an inclusive culture, where everyone feels like they belong.
