Success stories: Open Country

Where: North Yorkshire

What: Community Project

Harrogate-based charity, Open Country, received a OneFamily Foundation Community Grant after it was nominated for funding in 2018.

The charity has bases across Yorkshire and was set up to make the countryside more accessible to people with physical disabilities. The funding from the Foundation has enabled the group to buy an electric bike that’s been specially adapted for wheelchair users.

Open Country supports more than 350 people by organising and leading countryside activities for people with disabilities. Receiving a Community Grant has enabled the charity to invest in equipment that otherwise wouldn’t have been affordable.

“Our tandem bicycle club is one of our most popular groups but we currently only have one bike that is specially adapted for people in wheelchairs. We didn’t think we would be able to afford another, but receiving this grant means that we can welcome even more people into our community.”

If you know of a charity that could benefit from a boost in funding then why not nominate them for a Community Grant? Our Foundation was set up to give OneFamily a voice when it comes to supporting the people and good causes that matter most to them – one of the benefits to us being a customer-owned business.
