Patricia Martin, Kidderminster

Patricia, an over 50s life insurance customer from Kidderminster, has suffered from severe arthritis for more than 15 years. Patricia applied for a Personal Grant to pay for a mobility scooter so she can visit her daughter, Claire, who was born with Spina Bifida.

Claire also sadly suffered a brain stem stroke five years ago and was moved to a specialist home where she receives full time care. Located at the top of a steep hill, Patricia previously found it difficult to get to Claire’s new home.

Suffering from mobility problems, Patricia felt increasingly isolated, and with no family to take her to visit her daughter, she also had to deal with a large amount of guilt and worry.

"The grant has improved my life significantly, it’s given me my freedom back. I can’t walk very far and I hated not being able to get to see Claire as much as I’d like."

Patricia continued: “I felt guilty leaving Claire on her own and missed her very much. Now, thanks to my new mobility scooter, I can visit her as often as I like – something which makes us both incredibly happy. Claire has a very difficult life and our time together means so much to us both.”
