James and Mary Quinn

Posted in: Foundation

James, an over 50s life cover customer, served in the British army for more than 30 years and has since struggled with various conditions. Forced to leave the military because of his PTSD in 2000, retired James now lives with his wife, Mary, in their studio flat in London. His conditions make James’ home a very important place for him, where he spends the majority of the time, and one of the only spaces he feels entirely safe.

The couple find it difficult to pay for anything besides absolute necessities and found it embarrassing when guests came round as they had nowhere to sit. Therefore, with the help of a Personal Grant, James and Mary have been able to purchase a new sofa, which will make it possible for them to have guests to visit and improve the time they spend in the their flat.

"We’re absolutely thrilled with our new sofa. It’s just perfect for us and means we now have a place for guests to sit when they come round to see us."

I find it really hard to leave the flat with my PTSD and can’t stress what a comfortable environment means to me. The new sofa has made our flat more inviting – it’s absolutely fantastic.”
