Yarm Rugby Club use Community Award to invest in clubhouse facilities

Yarm Rugby Club received £5,000 after winning a Community Award through the OneFamily Foundation.

Since they started nearly 20 years ago, the club has become an essential part of the community and has over 140 junior members and 55 adult members. The money from the Foundation will be used to invest in the club’s facilities that are used by all of its members, and visiting teams.

Yarm Rugby club operates out of two portakabins, following an arson attack on the previous building a number of years ago. With the recent cash boost, they are planning to use the Community Award to update the shower and toilet facilities in the changing rooms and build a new kitchen.

Fundraising volunteer at the rugby club and OneFamily customer, Mark Trainer, nominated the club for a Community Award.

“The refurbished areas will create a welcoming place for visitors and members, and means we can take on even more adult and junior players, helping to build the next generation or rugby stars!”

Investing in the club’s facilities is likely to lead to improved player retention which in turn encourages more people to join. The club are now in a position to hire skilled workmen to make sure the building work can be done to a high standard.
