Total Recall wins £5,000 to fund rehearsal space and musical director

Older choir members sit in a row

Dundee-based choir, Total Recall Memories Choir, won a £5,000 Community Award to appoint a new musical director and cover the costs of renting the hall for practice sessions over the next 12 months.

Total Recall was set up to help those suffering with Alzheimer’s and dementia and has been running for three years. With a total of 45 members, the group is hoping to raise their profile in the local area and encourage more people to join them. The hiring of a musical director should also take their performances at the Christmas and summer shows to a whole new level!

Total Recall Memories Choir was nominated for a Community Award by Frances MacLeish, a OneFamily customer who is a member of the choir and also its treasurer.

“As an independent group, funding is essential and we’re thrilled so many people voted for us! Our choir is a community that welcomes Alzheimer’s and dementia sufferers, as well as their carers.”

Denise Main, chair of committee

Not only does the choir support those suffering with dementia but it also offers support to their carers, family and friends. For all its members, the choir offers a place where people can socialise and practice their hobby and it provides musical therapy and an outlet to lift the moral of those affected by the disease.
