Tarner Community Project was awarded the funding to create the She Sanctuary Girls’ Group, which aims to provide vital support for young women in Brighton struggling with issues such as family troubles, personal problems or difficulties with education and training.

They will use the funding to appoint a full-time youth worker, who will be on hand to talk to the women about any problems they have. The money will also go towards weekly activities to promote healthy eating and lifestyle choices, and equipment to help improve the life skills of its members.

The group was nominated for the award by Joanna Simmons, a OneFamily customer who also works for Tarner Community Project.

“Lack of support for vulnerable young women in our community is a real problem, but now, thanks to this award win, we’ll be able to create a place where they can come and feel safe.”

The project will provide a vital lifeline for women between the ages of 12 and 20 in the local area, allowing them a safe place to speak openly, seek advice and improve their aspirations and self-worth.
