Bristol-based Saltford C of E Primary School is dedicated to providing the best possible environment for its pupils, championing the numerous benefits of outdoor play and learning.

They received a £25,000 Community Award to fulfil their aspiration to build a classroom in the school’s garden, enabling the reception class to be taught outside during the summer months.

The funding will also go towards a large scale sandpit with a fixed cover, and a bike track to be enjoyed by all pupils. This will enhance the children’s learning experience, affording them more space and opportunity to learn through discovery.

The school was nominated for a Community Award by Megan Jackson, a OneFamily customer and Governor at the school.

“The new classroom will have an impact on our pupils for many years to come, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone in the local community who voted for us and made the project possible.”

Samantha Honeybell, EYFS Leader at Saltford Primary

With their main aim of ensuring that each child reaches his or her full potential, this funding will allow current and future pupils to learn together in a safe, happy, stimulating environment for years to come. Outdoor learning is extremely beneficial for young children as it promotes a healthy and active lifestyle and helps them to understand the natural world.
