Playskill win £25,000 to open new parent and child group in Watford

A women gives a thumbs up to playgroup children

Hertforshire-based charity Playskill runs vital parent and child groups for pre-school children with special physical needs, providing invaluable support to families in the region.

They currently help 32 children with disabilities across Watford and Hemel Hempstead, and they are the only group in Hertfordshire who provide this service.

The £25,000 Community Award will allow them to open a second, urgently needed group in Watford, so that they are able to reach more children and their families who would benefit from their services. The funding will go towards the day-to-day running costs, allowing the group to invest in a range of specialist equipment that the children can use to develop their motor and communication skills.

The £25,000 award will also help fund a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and speech and language therapist, providing the children and parents with specialist support and new learning opportunities which lend to increasing the children’s confidence.

Playskill was nominated for a Community Award by founder Andrea Clarke, a OneFamily customer.

“The group provides a safe, fun and nurturing environment for our children to learn and socialise in. We’re so pleased that, with the Community Award, we will be able to work with even more families, who need our support the most.”

With a growing waiting list and an increasing number of referrals, the new group is desperately needed by families in the area, and will allow more children to benefit from the emotional and practical support that the charity provides, empowering more parents and families of children with disabilities to work together and support one another.
