The building, which has been the meeting place for scout and local community groups for many years, has been in desperate need of repair, including a floor in danger of collapse due to the increased numbers of people attending the groups. Now that the charity has secured the £5k award, it can replace the floor and install disabled access ramps, making the building available to the whole community.
"The hut is a genuine community hub, not just a building for the scout and cub groups. It offers the children in the area a safe place to meet and take part in learning activities and games, both of which are in short supply in our area. My husband, who is a cub leader, has seen first–hand what a positive impact this can have on its members, which in turn inspired me to put them forward for a OneFamily Community Award." We’ve worked very hard for several years to try and repair as much of the building as possible but without the necessary funds, a new floor was one improvement that we just couldn’t afford. We were worried about the future of all the activities that take place within the hut, but now we’ve won the OneFamily award, we need worry no more. We can get all the work done and concentrate our efforts on helping as many children as possible. Thank you OneFamily, you’ve secured our future in the community for many years to come!
