Harpenden Academy in Hertfordshire is celebrating its recent win of £5,000 thanks to the OneFamily Foundation Community Awards scheme.

The new state-funded primary school will finally be able to purchase 500 new books for the 220 pupils that attend the school. Since it opened, the school has been finding creative ways to supplement its book shelves that have been very much needed to support the children’s learning.

OneFamily customer and mother of three, Christina Rae, nominated Harpenden Academy as a contender for the Schools category.

“The buzz of excitement amongst the staff and parents at the school has been amazing. These books will not only help the youngest children learn how to read, but will also develop the knowledge and curiosity of the older pupils.”

The funding will allow Harpenden Academy to fill its library with a variety of mainly non books suitable for all ages at the school, the majority being non-fiction. It will also help the school continue to meet the educational needs of the next generation of pupils.

“This grant means we can offer access to a rich resource crucial to the pupils’ wider education. With the range of technology available, there is nothing quite like handling a new book to enthuse a child.”
