East Kilbride Gymnastics Club (EKGC) has secured a £5k community award to purchase new, specialist training equipment for its members.

Founded in 1972, EKGC is dedicated to promoting the sport of gymnastics and in 2010 the club attained Gymmark certification, in recognition of its safe, effective and child-friendly club.

The club has over 600 members now, and was nominated for the award by OneFamily customer, Sarah Darroch, whose 13 year-old daughter Zoe trains with the club.

“We’re thrilled to have won the OneFamily community award – we still can’t believe it. My daughter, Zoe joined the club back in August and has already come such a long way thanks to the support and dedication of the fantastic coaches.  Now, because of this additional funding, the training will be better than ever and even more members will benefit.” Sarah Darroch

The club welcomes members of all ages and abilities; from children as young as 18 months to older members who like to keep active, from those at an introductory level to those who compete internationally.

The club’s organisers aim to use gymnastics to improve the mental and physical health and wellbeing of people in the East Kilbride community and believe that gymnastics provides an excellent foundation for all sports.

The money from the OneFamily Foundation will be used to purchase new training equipment, including specialist mats and inflatables, which will play an integral part of improving training for gymnasts at all levels.

“This really wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the community. Every vote counted and we really want to thank everyone who got behind us.” Sarah Darroch
