Support group for adults with Asperger’s and high functioning autism, ASpire, won a £5,000 Community Award from the OneFamily Foundation.

ASpire is a social group and mentoring project that helps to improve the confidence of adults with autism. It holds fortnightly activities such as bowling, bingo and karaoke in venues across Brighton, encouraging its members to make friends, improve their social skills, and most importantly have fun!

The group was nominated for a £5,000 Community Award to fund the cost of its room hire in Brighton, to pay its specially trained staff and to arrange more activities for its members. Clair Farenden, a OneFamily customer who works at ASpire’s host charity the Brighton & Hove Impetus, nominated them for the award.

“Service users say that our services are life changing, and now we can increase the support for local people who need it most. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for us and made this win possible.”

Jo Ivens, CEO

With help from the OneFamily Foundation, the group can continue to fund key resources that will help to build its members confidence, improve social and communication skills and reduce isolation and anxiety.
