How we supported our community in May

June 2022

This month, OneFamily staff gardened, painted, interviewed and spread the word.

OneFamily's charity affiliations

We're proud to support charities throughout the UK and within our local area. But support from OneFamily isn't just financial, we also share advice and skills, and encourage our colleagues to take time out of their working week to help others.

Here's what we've been up to this month.

Teaching interview skills with Spear Programme

Spear is one of our official charity partners. The programme helps young people who are facing barriers getting into work or education. It teaches life and work skills and ultimately equips its members with the motivation and confidence to succeed in long-term employment.

We helped the programme’s mission by undertaking mock interviews with some of its members who were nearing the end of the six-week programme.

The OneFamily volunteers were able to bring their real-life experience of recruitment to support and help prepare the young people they worked with for job interviews.

Painting for ESTEEM

ESTEEM works with people aged 14-26. The team provides mentoring, wellbeing, social and volunteering opportunities with the aim of helping young people build the confidence and skills needed to be active and powerful members of their community.

We were thrilled to be invited to ESTEEM’s Spring Spruce which saw 23 members of OneFamily staff helping to paint the charity’s offices over four days.

Gardening at Stanmer Wellbeing Gardens

Stanmer Wellbeing Gardens is a volunteer-funded community space where people can find sanctuary and nurture wellbeing, through getting involved in food-growing, gardening, education and nature connection activities.

Senior managers from our Customer Operations team spent the day at the gardens helping with maintenance, creating a path through the wildflower garden and building a luxury bug hotel complete with a fully tiled roof!

Raising awareness of Brighton Unemployed Centre for Families Project (BUCFP) services

BUCFP is a Brighton-based charity providing practical support, education, advice and much more to people who are unemployed, on low incomes, living in poor living conditions or claiming benefits, as well as pensioners and families.

But BUCFP can only help if people know about the support they offer.

That’s where we came in this month. A team of OneFamily staff spent a day handing out flyers and helping to spread awareness of the fantastic work the charity is doing and the services available.
