OneFamily donates £25,000 to five Sussex charities

West Street headquartered OneFamily has awarded £25,000 to five local charities through its new OneFamily Foundation Local Heroes scheme

Local Heroes has been introduced to offer employees the chance to give back to local charities that have impacted them and their families. OneFamily employees were invited to nominate a charity that was looking for funds for a specific project, and after a two-week voting period, the nominations that received the highest number of employee votes were awarded £5,000 each. The five charities that received an award are Martlets Hospice, Sussex Homeless Support, Raystede Centre for Animals, Whoopsadaisy and Brighton & Hove Samaritans.

Raystede will use the funds to benefit people fleeing domestic violence by providing temporary accommodation for their pets. Whoopsadaisy wants to improve its toilet facilities at one of its centres so older children can still benefit from its services. Sussex Homeless Support will use the funds to improve its converted double decker bus, which offers beds for rough sleepers and Martlets will replace in-patient chairs which have been in constant use for over ten years. Finally, the Samaritans will be refurbishing its waiting area and interview rooms.

Guy French, Corporate and Customer Strategy Director at OneFamily, said:

“Local Heroes is a fantastic opportunity to give our employees the opportunity to support charities they care about. We had a real mixture of large and small charities nominated and we are delighted to be able to support these worthy good causes. Through the OneFamily Foundation, we give our customers the opportunity to give back to their local community and Local Heroes does the same for our employees.”

The OneFamily Foundation was set up in 2015 to give OneFamily customers access to personal or community-based grants. It provides £5 million over five years to good causes benefiting its customers, their loved ones and local communities.

Local Heroes is a new scheme only available to staff members with policies. OneFamily employees will be able to nominate again in September 2018.
