Wyrley Juniors scores £5,000 for new changing facilities

Posted in: Foundation Last updated: 12 Oct 2016

Staffordshire-based football club, Wyrley Juniors, will be investing in new changing facilities after winning £5,000 in a national competition.

Wyrley Juniors was awarded the money as part of the OneFamily Foundation Community Awards, which are run twice-yearly and provide life-changing sums to organisations, groups and projects across the UK.

The club plans to build new state-of-the-art changing facilities for the 120 local footballers who use Harrisons Football Ground in Great Wyrley. The new development will replace the repurposed shipping container currently used by the club, which has no electricity or running water.

Wyrley Juniors was nominated for a Community Award by Jo Thomas, a OneFamily customer who plays in a ladies’ team at the ground. The football club was one of 24 organisations presented with an award in this latest round.

Jo said:

“Winning the funding is great news for everyone involved with the team, and the new changing facilities will benefit players for years to come.

“We plan to make the facilities fully accessible for everyone, so that we can host and develop football for disabled players in the community.”

The Community Awards are run by the OneFamily Foundation, an organisation set up by financial mutual, OneFamily, to redistribute a proportion of its profits to help its customers, their families and local communities.

Karl Elliott, marketing director at OneFamily, said:

“Wyrley Juniors is a fantastic organisation which encourages people across the community to stay active and get involved with sport.

“Our Community Awards are designed to benefit the causes closest to our customers’ hearts, giving community groups and projects the funding boost they need to continue to offer their vital work.

“The next Community Awards will launch on Monday 19 September, so I’d urge all Staffordshire customers with an active policy to get involved and nominate a cause close to their heart.”

Through the OneFamily Foundation, OneFamily aspires to make £5million available to its customers – to improve their lives or to help them make a positive difference to their local communities.
