Watford charity plans expansion after £25,000 award win

Posted in: Foundation Date added:

A Watford-based charity will be able to provide specialist support to even more children in the local community, after winning £25,000 in a national competition.

Playskill received the £25,000 Community Award from OneFamily. Through its twice yearly awards the financial mutual allows its customers to nominate a cause that’s close to their hearts to receive a life changing sum.

The charity runs parent and child groups for pre-school children with special physical needs. It currently has four groups of eight pupils at sites across Watford and Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire.

The Community Award will allow the children’s charity to open a third group in Watford, with the funding contributing towards its day-to-day running costs and allowing the group to buy a range of specialist equipment.

The £25,000 will also help to fund a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and speech and language therapist.

Playskill was nominated for a Community Award by John Lamb, a OneFamily customer. The charity was one of 24 organisations presented with an award in this latest round.

Andrea Clarke, director of Playskill, said:

“The group provides a safe, fun and nurturing environment for our children to learn and socialise in. We’re so pleased that, with the Community Award, we will be able to work with even more families, who need our support the most.”

The Community Awards are run by the OneFamily Foundation, which was set up by financial mutual OneFamily to redistribute a proportion of its profits to help its customers, their families and local communities.

Karl Elliott, marketing director at OneFamily, said:

“Playskill has an immeasurable impact on the lives of the families that attend, and we’re extremely pleased to be able to award them the funding.

“Our Community Awards are designed to benefit the causes closest to our customers’ hearts, giving community groups and projects the funding boost they need to continue to offer their vital work.

“The next Community Awards are now open, so I’d urge all Watford-based customers with an active policy to get involved and nominate a cause close to their heart.”

Through the OneFamily Foundation, OneFamily aspires to make £5million available to its customers – to improve their lives or to help them make a positive difference to their local communities.
