It’s playtime for Chepstow school after £5,000 award win

A school in Chepstow is celebrating after winning £5,000 to revamp its play equipment in a national competition.

The Dell Primary School, in Welsh Street, was awarded the money as part of the OneFamily Foundation Community Awards, which are run twice-yearly and provide life-changing sums to organisations, groups and projects across the UK.

The school, which has more than 400 pupils, desperately needs new play equipment to replace broken and poor-condition toys which the pupils currently have to play with.

The new play facilities will enhance the learning experience for pupils at the beginning of their learning journey, helping them develop essential social, emotional, cognitive and physical skills while having fun.

The project is being led by the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and will include roleplay and construction play equipment for use by children aged four to 11, both indoors and outdoors.

The Dell Primary School was nominated for a Community Award by PTA member Janet Hopkins, a OneFamily customer. The project was one of 24 organisations presented with an award in this latest round.

Janet said:

“Play is an essential part of children’s development, and we’re so pleased that we now have the funding to revamp the facilities available at the school.

“The aim is to provide a wide range of indoor and outdoor equipment to stimulate imaginative play so children can learn about themselves, their peers and the world around them while, most importantly, having fun.”

The Community Awards are run by the OneFamily Foundation, an organisation set up by financial mutual, OneFamily, to redistribute a proportion of its profits to help its customers, their families and local communities.

Karl Elliott, marketing director at OneFamily, said:

“It’s great to know that our funding will have a positive effect on children’s lives for many years to come.

“Our Community Awards are designed to benefit the causes closest to our customers’ hearts, giving community groups and projects the funding boost they need to continue to offer their vital work.

“The next Community Awards will launch on Monday 19 September, so I’d urge all Monmouthshire customers with an active policy to get involved and nominate a cause close to their heart.”

Through the OneFamily Foundation, OneFamily aspires to make £5million available to its customers – to improve their lives or to help them make a positive difference to their local communities.
