Posted in: Foundation Date added:

A Bristol-based community darts club for under 21s will be hiring a new coach and purchasing new training equipment, after winning £25,000 in a national competition.

Bristol Youth County Darts was awarded the money as part of the OneFamily Foundation Community Awards, which are run twice-yearly and provide life-changing sums to organisations, groups and projects across the UK.

The club was specifically set-up for young darts players, and allows them develop their sporting skills by playing competitively against other teams across the country.

The £25,000 grant will be used to fund new shirts and equipment, a darts stage, and also a vehicle big enough to transport the team, parents and supporters to events and competitions.

Bristol Youth was nominated for a Community Award by the club’s secretary Rachel Jarman, a OneFamily customer whose children Tia, 14, and Owen, 13, are members of the club. The project was one of 24 organisations presented with an award in this latest round.

Rachel said:

“We still can’t believe that we’ve won, it’s an incredible feeling. The money will help with the day-to-day running of the club, as well as enabling our members to take part in a range of new opportunities. The award also means we’ll be able to recruit new members.

“The club provides a great opportunity for young people to make new friends, learn about team work and enjoy taking part in sport.”

The Community Awards are run by the OneFamily Foundation, an organisation set up by financial mutual, OneFamily, to redistribute a proportion of its profits to help its customers, their families and local communities.

Karl Elliott, marketing director at OneFamily, said:

“It’s fantastic to see the money go towards such a great community club which brings young people together, and encourages team participation.

“Our Community Awards are designed to benefit the causes closest to our customers’ hearts, giving community groups and projects the funding boost they need to continue to offer their vital work.
“The next Community Awards will launch on Monday 19 September, so I’d urge Bristol customers with an active policy to get involved and nominate a cause close to their heart.”

“Through the OneFamily Foundation, OneFamily aspires to make £5million available to its customers – to improve their lives or to help them make a positive difference to their local communities.”
