£5,000 Minibus boost will help Flintshire Cubs enjoy new adventures

Posted in: Foundation Date added:

The 1st Kinnerton Scout Group are celebrating after winning £5,000 to help them replace their worn-out minibus in a national competition.

The group were awarded the money as part of the OneFamily Foundation Community Awards, which are run twice-yearly and provide life-changing sums to organisations, groups and projects across the UK.

Its current minibus, which is used by children aged six to 25-years-old, has seen better days and a new vehicle would enable them to visit new areas and experience new adventures. It will be used by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers in Kinnerton, and the local area.

Kinnerton’s Scout Group have already been busy raising funds through jumble sales and second-hand book stalls, and plan to match the £5,000 awarded in the OneFamily Foundation Community Awards.

The 1st Kinnerton Scout Group were nominated for a Community Award by Allison Parrish, who is an assistant cub leader and whose daughter is a OneFamily customer. The project was one of 24 organisations presented with an award in this latest round.

Allison said:

“Providing the local community, including the Cubs, with a safe and reliable mini bus will enable us to enjoy trips away.

“It’s vital that children get to experience the outdoors regularly, and we’re so grateful to the OneFamily Foundation for giving us this funding.”

The Community Awards are run by the OneFamily Foundation, which was set up by financial mutual, OneFamily, to redistribute a proportion of its profits to help its customers, their families and local communities.

Karl Elliott, marketing director at OneFamily, said:

“A new minibus will be a real asset to Kinnerton’s Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, as well as the wider community.

“Our Community Awards are designed to benefit the causes closest to our customers’ hearts, giving community groups and projects the funding boost they need to continue to offer their vital work.

“The next Community Awards will launch on Monday 19 September, so I’d urge all customers in Flintshire with an active policy to get involved and nominate a cause close to their heart.”

Through the OneFamily Foundation, OneFamily aspires to make £5million available to its customers – to improve their lives or to help them make a positive difference to their local communities.
