Funding supports new, grassed outdoor space in drive for Forest School status.

Children attending Heddington Preschool  in Wiltshire will get a brand new outdoor play area thanks to a £5,000 grant awarded by The OneFamily Foundation.

The community-led preschool will use the investment to refurbish and expand the outside area with a view to training staff to attain Forest School status.  Forest Schools encourage and inspire through outdoor play and learning in a woodland environment.

Heddington Preschool  has identified a suitable area of land for the project and will work together with the adjacent primary school – Heddington VA CE Primary School -  and the Parish Council to create a safe, thriving and stimulating play area for the children.   The grant will be used tofund staff training, fence the area and buy play and forest school equipment.

It is hoped that the £5,000 grant awarded by The OneFamily Foundation will also help the small rural village preschool thrive in the long term. The creation of a new outdoor space with top-of-the range facilities will provide a better learning environment for current and future pupils, and help the preschool continue to attract pupils from the wider community.

Amanda Jenkins, OneFamily customer said: “Education through play, especially practical outside activities, provides a foundation for learning which all children can benefit from.  The new outdoor space is going to be an absolute delight for the children and will open up greater learning opportunities for them too.  On behalf of the preschool, I would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for us to receive the OneFamily award.”

As a OneFamily customer, Amanda applied for the funding from the OneFamily Foundation. Although only OneFamily customers can nominate a community project for funding, members of the public are encouraged to show their support via an online vote, with winning projects being those that secure the most votes.

There are two ways customers can benefit; personal grants or community awards.  A number of personal grants of up to £500 are available every month to help them, or someone close to them in times or hardship, or simply to make things a little better. Community awards are open for nominations in spring and autumn, with awards of up to £5,000 and £25,000 available to help fund projects in their local community.
