OneFamily Foundation £25k award thrills Worcester special school.

An ambitious plan to develop the playground facilities at Chadsgrove School in Bromsgrove into a new and exciting outdoor community area moved a step closer to reality today when the school’s Playground for Everyone project secured a fantastic £25,000 Community Award from the OneFamily Foundation.

The school is passionately committed to providing the very best facilities for its 120 pupils, all of whom have special physical needs. The outdoor space is in desperate need of refurbishment in order to provide a safe and inclusive play area for the pupils, their siblings and children in the wider community.

The school plans to provide a fun, high quality playground area which is fully wheelchair accessible.  This will include a new sand area alongside a mirror and music wall which will add to the children’s outdoor fun.  The area will also be resurfaced to make it safe and accessible to all.

Carolyn Russell, a OneFamily customer said “This is fantastic news. When my daughter started working at the school last year, I was really impressed with what a fantastic place it is and how much good work they do. The wheelchair accessible playground has always been a dream of the school but sadly, out of financial reach. When I received information about the OneFamily community awards, I knew that this was the ideal way to raise the funds and thanks to the amazing support of the local community, the school’s dream has finally been realised.”

Deb Rattley, Head Teacher at Chadsgrove, added: “This project is going to have a huge impact on the pupils in the school and the children in the wider community; providing them with an environment where they can play as independently as possible, enabling them to learn, socialise, relax, and most importantly have fun!

“It’s very exciting, the work can now start. We want to say a huge thank you to both the OneFamily Foundation for their generosity and the public for voting for our project!”

The OneFamily Foundation is a unique customer benefit fund, provided by mutual, OneFamily, which aspires to make £5million available to its members over the next five years to make their lives and communities better.

OneFamily customers have been busy nominating community projects for funding and the public have been encouraged to show their support through an online vote. Chadsgrove Special School’s A Playground for Everyone was nominated by OneFamily customer, Carolyn Russell, and is one of four UK projects announced today as a winner of a £25,000 award.

OneFamily is a mutual organisation providing investments, savings, health and life insurance products to help families work together to meet the financial demands of modern life.  As a customer owned business it is run for the benefit of its customers.  The OneFamily Foundation redistributes a portion of the organisation’s profits, and intends to make £5 million available to customers over the next five years to help them, their families and their local communities. The Foundation has also helped hundreds of customers with personal grants since its launch in 2014, and its funding pot is made possible due to the financial stability of the customer-owned organisation.

Anna Drabble, Head of Community at OneFamily said: “We are delighted to award our largest amount of community funding to Chadsgrove School. It will help create a fantastic outdoor space for the benefit of both the school and the surrounding community. Our Community Awards are there to enable customers to make something better in their area and Carolyn will be doing just that in Bromsgrove through this inspiring and community focused project.”
