Engage Mutual has appointed fair trade expert Paul Chandler to its non executive board of directors.

With almost 20 years’ experience in executive positions, Paul is chief executive at Traidcraft plc, the UK’s leading fair trade organisation, and one of the pioneers driving the expansion of fair trade in UK and Europe. Previously General Secretary at SPCK (the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge), he also spent nine years with Barclays plc, where he held a number of strategic planning and general management roles.

Speaking of his appointment, Paul stated,

“The opportunity to help Engage Mutual build a strong service reputation and a distinctive membership offer responding to the passions and values of its members is really exciting. The successful integration of principles in Traidcraft’s commercial model has strong parallels with growing the delivery of benefits in a mutual organisation owned by its members.”

Engage Mutual’s chairman, David Robinson, outlined,

“With a powerful combination of strategic experience across financial and fair trade organisations, we anticipate that Paul will bring a unique insight and valuable perspective that will assist Engage Mutual on its important strategic journey.”

Paul lives in Durham, with his wife and three teenage daughters.  He also serves as a non executive director for the charitable trust, the William Leech Foundation, and is currently chair of the UK Fair Trade Leaders Forum and of Durham Cathedral Council.
