Headed up by ex St Helens, Hull, Wakefield, Ireland and GB Lions Tourist player, Steve Prescott, who is currently battling cancer, the Foundation raises money for two nominated charities. To date it has raised more than £150,000, which has been shared by The RFL Benevolent Fund and the Christie Cancer Hospital in Manchester.
Engage Mutual said that its role as the Foundation’s main partner will include helping to maximise awareness of the Foundation, and the impact of its packed calendar of events for 2010, which include the Scrumdown Rally and Grand Final Dragon Boat from Wigan to Old Trafford.
Steve Prescott confirmed how pleased he was to have the organisation on board and said:
“Over the past three years as title sponsor of the Engage Super League, Engage Mutual has shown real commitment to the values at the heart of a family game which looks after its own.
“We’re really looking forward to our numerous fundraising challenges and events over the next 12 months, and hope that by working in partnership with Engage Mutual, we can raise even more money for our two worthy causes.”
Head of brand at Engage Mutual, Tina Clare said:
“The work done by Steve Prescott is inspirational. Whilst fighting his disease, he pushes his body to the limits for his chosen charities. If we can help the Foundation achieve its goals for 2010, which will be to the benefit both of sick and injured Rugby League players and cancer sufferers, we will consider it a job well done.”
