A free addition to your Over 50s Life Cover

Our Funeral Funding Option is a free addition to your Over 50s Life Cover that will make arranging your funeral much simpler.

The Funeral Funding Option allows you to arrange a payment to be made directly from your policy proceeds towards your funeral expenses. Please remember Over 50s Life Cover is not a Funeral Plan and would not necessarily meet the full cost of a funeral.

£250 contribution* to your funeral costs

A £250 contribution* will be made towards your funeral costs by the Funeral Funding Option provider. This will go towards the cost of your funeral provided it is arranged through the Funeral Funding Option provider.

Adding the free Funeral Funding Option is simple

All you have to do is let us know you want to add what is called a 'Legal Charge' to your plan. This simply means all or part of the proceeds of your Over 50s Life Cover will be paid towards your funeral costs. Payment is made directly from your policy to the Funeral Funding Option provider at the time of settling the final bill.

When you apply for our Over 50s Life Cover we’ll ask you during the application process if you’d like the Funeral Funding Option and who you’d like the provider to be.

If your payout is different to the actual cost

If the sum assured is more than the cost of your funeral, your nominated beneficiary or administrator of your estate will need to claim the excess from OneFamily. However, if your funeral costs total more than your cover, your representative will be responsible for settling the balance with the funeral director at the time of arranging the funeral. It's worth bearing in mind that the average cost of a burial in the UK is £4,690**.

Make your personal wishes known

Included within this option is the chance to specify your wishes for the details of service. So you get exactly what you want and your family aren't burdened with the decisions.

Change your mind at any time

Our Funeral Funding Option is not irreversible. If you want to you can change your mind and remove the 'Legal Charge' from your plan. However, you may only be able to do this once and if it is removed, you may not be able to apply another Legal Charge in the future.

Important things to remember

You can only apply a Funeral Funding Option to one policy and to one provider at any one time. If you have multiple OneFamily Over 50s Life Cover plans please select carefully the one you want the Funeral Funding Option to be applied to.

A Funeral Funding Option will take precedence over any nominations made against a policy. Once removed, you may not be able to apply a Funeral Funding Option to the same policy or provider in the future.

If you die within the first 2 years of taking out your policy, the Funeral Funding Option will not apply and the pay out will be made under the conditions of your plan. However, the £250 Contribution* towards the cost of your funeral will still be available if it is carried out by the Funeral Funding Option provider.

If you make a serious illness claim, the benefit payable to the Funeral Funding Option provider will reduce. In the event of a terminal illness claim then the money is paid to you and the policy closed, however the £250 Contribution* will still be offered by the Funeral Funding Option provider if they are providing your funeral services.

Please remember Over 50s Life Cover is not a Funeral Plan and would not necessarily meet the full cost of a funeral.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen if I die within the first two years of taking out my Over 50s Life Cover Plus from OneFamily?

If you die within the first two years of taking out your Over 50s Life Cover Plus, the full cash sum will not be payable. We will pay 150% of the premiums paid or the accidental death benefit (if applicable) to your estate or nominated beneficiary. Please see Policy Document for full details.

Your representatives will still be able to use the Funeral Funding Option's £250 Contribution towards the cost of your funeral, provided it is being arranged by the Funeral Funding Option provider.

What happens if I stop paying premiums after I've 'charged' my Over 50s Life Cover Plus to the Funeral Funding Option provider?

It's important to keep paying your premiums, otherwise your cover will cease and the charge will be removed.

This means no payment would be made to the Funeral Funding Option provider towards your funeral costs. The Funeral Funding Option provider will also not provide the contribution towards the cost of your funeral.

What if I want to charge more than one Over 50s Life Cover Plus from OneFamily to the Funeral Funding Option provider?

You can only charge one over Over 50s Life Cover policy to the Funeral Funding Option provider.

Is it possible to cancel the 'charge' once it's set up?

Yes. Just write to us, marking the letter for the attention of Customer Services, at the following address:
OneFamily
Hornbeam Park Avenue
Harrogate
HG2 8XE

We'll then inform the Funeral Funding Option provider that you'd like to cancel the charge. The Funeral Funding Option provider will then release the 'charge' and your Over 50s Life Cover would continue as normal. Under these circumstances, the Funeral Funding Option provider would have no obligation to provide your funeral services and the Contribution will not be payable.

Once the 'charge' against an Over 50s Life Cover has been cancelled you may not be able to reinstate it at a future date. You may not be able to 'charge' any other plans to the same Funeral Funding option provider.

A Legal Charge can be cancelled either by yourself, your personal representative or by the administrator of your estate.

What if my next of kin want to use the benefit payable for my funeral but not with my chosen Funeral Funding Option provider?

If your next of kin decide not to use your chosen Funeral Funding Option provider to arrange the funeral, they can write marking the letter for the attention of Customer Services at the following address:
OneFamily
Hornbeam Park Avenue
Harrogate
HG2 8XE

We'll inform the Funeral Funding Option provider that they wish to cancel the 'charge'. The Funeral Funding Option provider would then release the 'charge' and the benefit payable would be paid to your estate or nominated beneficiary. The Funeral Funding Option provider's Contribution would not be payable.

When and how is the funeral with the chosen Funeral Funding Option provider paid for?

If the proceeds of the policy together with the £250 contribution are equal to or exceed the cost of the funeral there will be nothing to pay.

If there is an outstanding balance to pay for the agreed funeral arrangements, this will need to be paid by your representatives at the time of arranging the funeral.

If the proceeds of your plan together with the £250 contribution exceed the cost of the funeral, then the excess will be paid to your estate or nominated beneficiaries.

By 'charging' my Over 50s Life Cover Plus from OneFamily am I buying a Funeral Plan from the Funeral Funding Option provider?

No. In 'charging' your Over 50s Life Cover you are saying that you want the benefit payable from your policy.

What if I die abroad?

If you die abroad and wish to have your funeral conducted in Great Britain or Northern Ireland, the Funeral Funding Option provider's Funeral Director may be able to arrange repatriation to the UK.

If they are able to arrange repatriation the Funeral Director will advise your representatives of the costs involved.

Provided that the Funeral Funding Option is still enforced and your funeral is arranged with the Funeral Funding Option provider the Funeral Funding Option provider's £250 Contribution will still apply.

What happens if I make a claim for serious illness or terminal illness benefit?

If you make a serious illness claim, the benefit payable to the Funeral Funding Option provider may reduce. In the event of a terminal illness claim then the money is paid to you and the policy is closed, however the £250 contribution will still be offered by the Funeral Funding Option provider if they are providing your funeral services.
